SawyersTri Story

We created this triathlon to the memory of our son, Sawyer whom we lost in May of 2006 due to complications during labor.  In 2010 Sawyer would have been starting in the 4K program at Maywood School in Monona and joining peewee programs at the recreation department. So, we have created a fundraiser that will support those programs in which he would have been participating.

The Sawyer Crossen Memorial Triathlon is a fun event promoting physical fitness, family, and community and raises money for a scholarship named for Sawyer that is following his school years from 4K to 12th grade.

In 2010, a scholarship was awarded to 4K teachers to purchase an art table in Sawyer’s name so that he can be a small part of that class, as well as purchasing two soccer nets for the peewee soccer program and part of a large wrestling mat to support the Monona Rec department's wrestling program.  Each successive year the money will go to the next grade-level teachers until the 12th grade. In 2024 our intention is to award a graduating senior a scholarship to be used for his or her continued education.    Our family is so excited about seeing hundreds of kids wearing Sawyer’s name on their T-shirts and each year being able to present something to his teachers and our community.

A great committee of athletes, community members, and city employees have joined together, and have already dedicated hours tothis amazing event and we appreciate their time. We are looking forward to a great day in June- full of family fun and fitness. We hope that you will share our enthusiasm for healthy kids and support this great family event.
